What you need before Week 1

Good news first: you do not need a Mac, an expensive phone or a computer science degree. Here is the real list.

Hardware

  • A laptop running Windows, macOS or Linux. Eight gigabytes of memory is comfortable. Less works, just slower.
  • An Android phone or an iPhone to test on. Either is fine. If you have a cousin with the other kind, even better for testing later.
  • A stable connection. Fiber is ideal, but pocket Wi-Fi works if you plan your big downloads at night.

Money you will spend later

Publishing costs money on both sides. Apple charges a yearly fee for the Apple Developer Program. Google charges a one-time registration fee for the Play Console. The amounts change, so check the current price on developer.apple.com and on the Play Console sign-up page before you budget. You will need a card that works for online international payments. A card-enabled GCash account or a debit card from your bank usually works, but test a small online purchase first.

You do not need to pay anything during Weeks 1 and 2. Enroll in Week 3, because verification can take a few days.

Skills

If you have written a bit of JavaScript before, great. If not, you can still finish, but plan an extra two hours in Week 2. The free JavaScript lessons on freeCodeCamp cover what you need: variables, functions, arrays and objects.

Time

Plan about five to six hours a week, plus the live call. Week 4 has waiting time for review, so start it early.
