A good entry-level IT cover letter in the Philippines is short: three or four paragraphs, under 250 words, that name the exact role, give one or two specific proofs (a project, a cert, a ticket you resolved), connect your past work to the job, and end with a clear line about your availability. Paste it into the JobStreet or Kalibrr cover letter box, or attach it as a PDF when the post asks. Below is the template plus three full IT cover letter samples you can adapt today.
Most cover letters for IT jobs fail for the same reason: they could have been sent to any company, for any role. "I am a hardworking and dedicated individual seeking a challenging position" tells the recruiter nothing. A cover letter earns its place only when it says something your resume can't say alone, like why a BPO agent is a believable service desk hire.
Do you still need a cover letter for IT jobs in the Philippines?
Sometimes yes, often it's optional, and it matters more for career shifters than anyone else. Many JobStreet and LinkedIn Easy Apply posts make the cover letter box optional, and plenty of recruiters skim straight to the resume. Still, a short, specific note helps in three situations:
- You're a career shifter. Your resume says "Customer Service Representative." The cover letter explains why that makes you a good IT support or QA hire.
- The post asks for one. If the post says "send your resume and cover letter," skipping it signals you didn't read the post.
- You're emailing a person directly. A referral, an HR email from a job fair, or a company careers inbox. The email body is your cover letter.
If an application has no cover letter field and no instruction to send one, don't force it. Spend that time tailoring your resume instead.
The 4-paragraph IT cover letter template
A cover letter is a short letter sent with your resume that explains why you fit this specific role. Use this structure:
- Opening (2 sentences): The exact job title, where you saw it, and one line on who you are now.
- Proof (3 to 4 sentences): One or two concrete things you've done that match the job post. Name the tool, cert or project.
- Bridge (2 to 3 sentences): Why your background, even a non-IT one, makes you good at this. Tie it to something in the post.
- Close (2 sentences): Availability (start date, shift, onsite or hybrid) and a simple thank you.
Before you write, open the job post and highlight three requirements. Your letter should answer at least two of them by name. If the post says "familiar with ticketing tools and Active Directory," those words belong in paragraph two.
IT cover letter sample 1: BPO agent to IT support
This one is for a career shifter applying to a service desk role. Notice that every claim is checkable.
Dear Hiring Team,
I'm applying for the IT Service Desk Analyst role posted on
JobStreet. I'm currently a technical support representative
on a telco account, where I've spent four years fixing
home internet and modem issues.
In that time I've handled connectivity cases end to end:
checking line status, walking customers through modem
resets, and escalating to field technicians with clear
notes. To build the IT side, I completed the Google IT
Support Professional Certificate on Coursera and set up a
home lab in VirtualBox, where I practice Active Directory
tasks like creating users, resetting passwords and
applying group policies.
Your post mentions working with tickets and SLAs. That's
my daily routine: I work from a queue, document every case
in our CRM, and I'm used to night shift and rotating
schedules.
I can start within 30 days and I'm open to onsite work in
Ortigas. Thank you for considering my application. My
resume and home lab notes are attached.
Sincerely,
Mark Dela Cruz

IT cover letter sample 2: teacher to QA tester
Dear Ms. Reyes,
I'm writing to apply for the Junior QA Tester position on
Kalibrr. I taught high school Science for six years, and
for the past eight months I've been training in software
testing.
I've worked through the ISTQB Foundation syllabus and
written test cases and bug reports for two public demo
web stores. Those are on my GitHub, including 18 test
cases for a checkout flow and four documented bugs with
steps to reproduce, expected and actual results.
Teaching trained me to check work carefully and write
instructions clear enough for 40 students to follow.
That's most of what a good bug report needs. When our
school moved to an online learning platform, I was the
teacher who reported issues to the vendor, which is how
I got interested in QA in the first place.
I'm available for hybrid work and can start after the
school year ends in June. Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Ana SantosAddress a real person when the post or LinkedIn gives you a name. "Dear Hiring Team" is fine when it doesn't. Avoid "To whom it may concern," which reads as a template. For more on this shift, see teacher to IT career.
IT cover letter sample 3: fresh graduate, junior developer
Hi Mr. Tan,
I'm applying for the Junior Web Developer role I found on
LinkedIn. I graduated this year with a BS in Information
Technology, and I'm looking for a team where I can ship
real features.
For our capstone, my group of four built an appointment
system for a dental clinic in Batangas using React,
Node.js and MySQL. I handled the booking API and the
admin dashboard. The clinic used it for two weeks of
testing, and fixing what real users broke taught me more
than any exam.
Your post lists React and REST APIs, which I used daily
on that project. The code and a short demo video are
linked below.
I can start immediately and I'm open to onsite work in
BGC. Thank you, and I hope to hear from you.
Best regards,
Paolo Garcia
github.com/yournameFresh grads, your capstone is your work experience. Write about it like a job. The capstone portfolio guide covers how to present it.
Weak vs strong lines, side by side
Most of the improvement comes from swapping vague lines for specific ones. Here are the most common rewrites:
- Weak: "I am a fast learner who is passionate about technology." Strong: "I learned basic SQL on SQLBolt in three weeks and now use it to query my practice dataset."
- Weak: "I have excellent communication skills." Strong: "I explain fixes to non-technical customers every day, often over a bad phone line."
- Weak: "I believe I am a perfect fit for this position." Strong: "Your post asks for ticketing experience. I work from a queue of 40 to 60 cases a shift." (Use your real number.)
- Weak: "Please give me a chance to prove myself." Strong: "I can start within 30 days and I'm open to night shift."
That last one matters. "Please give me a chance" sounds like you're asking for a favor. You're offering skills they need, so write like it.
Doing this alone works, it just takes more drafts. What usually slows people down is not knowing whether a line is specific enough. In the Career Shifter Track, a coach reviews your resume bullets line by line in week 3, and that same translation (old job into IT proof) is exactly what your cover letter paragraph two needs.
The short version for JobStreet, Kalibrr and LinkedIn
Many application forms give you a small text box, and some recruiters read cover notes on their phones. For those, cut the letter down to about 80 words:
Hi! I'm applying for the IT Support Associate role. I have
4 years of technical support experience on a telco account
(connectivity, modem config, escalations) and I completed
the Google IT Support certificate. I practice Active
Directory in a home lab and I'm comfortable with tickets,
SLAs and night shift. I can start within 30 days. My resume
is attached. Thank you!If you're sending it by email, put the role in the subject line: "Application: IT Support Associate, Mark Dela Cruz." Attach your resume as a PDF named with your name, not "resume final final.pdf." For which platform to use when, see JobStreet vs LinkedIn vs Kalibrr.
Cover letter mistakes that get you skipped
- Repeating your resume. The letter should explain and connect, not list duties again.
- The wrong company name. Copying last week's letter and leaving the old company's name in it ends the application. Read it once before you send.
- Overlong letters. Two pages of life story won't be read. One screen, max.
- Apologizing for your background. "Although I have no IT experience..." opens with a weakness. Start with what you've done.
- Inventing skills. If you list Python and can't write a loop, the technical interview will catch it.
- A generic AI draft. It's fine to use a tool to fix grammar. A letter full of "I am thrilled to apply for this exciting opportunity" sounds like everyone else's. Your specific details are what make it yours.

Frequently asked questions
How long should an IT cover letter be?
Keep it under 250 words, about three or four short paragraphs. For application text boxes on JobStreet or Kalibrr, 60 to 100 words is enough.
Should I write my cover letter in Filipino or English?
Write it in English. Most IT roles in the Philippines, especially in BPO, IT services and multinational companies, expect English communication, and the letter is your first sample of it.
Is it okay to use the same cover letter for every application?
Keep the same structure, but change the opening, the proof paragraph and the role name for each job. Matching two or three requirements from each post by name is what makes it read as tailored.
Do I need a cover letter if I'm applying through LinkedIn Easy Apply?
Usually not, unless the form asks for one. A short message to the recruiter or hiring manager after you apply, using the 80-word version above, often does more.
What if I have no IT experience to mention?
Mention what you've trained on and built, such as a course, cert or small project, and connect your current job to the role. If you have nothing concrete yet, finish one small project first, because it gives your letter something real to point to.
